A NEW Hobart speed-dating night is bucking the trend of internet dating by connecting singles face to face.

MeetYourMatch founder Renae Smith, who is hosting a sell-out event tonight at the Maypole Hotel in New Town, said it was all about creating an opportunity to bring people together.

The evening lets singles who are hitting it off put in “match” cards that will connect them if they have a mutual match — much like the digital dating app Tinder.

“I wanted to create a safe space for singles of similar ages to meet and get to know each other — even if they don’t end up dating,” said Ms Smith.

The event, which began in Launceston, has been inundated by singles of all ages looking to escape the online dating scene.

“I’ve created nights for the 30 to 40-year-olds, 40 to 50-year-olds, 50 to 65-year-olds and I will make a 20 to 30s night,” Ms Smith said.

She said the only advice she had for people looking to try out speed dating was be yourself and don’t be afraid to share a part of who you are.

The events will run regularly, with future dates are available at meetyourmatch.com.au
